3 Ways to Unleash Your Inner Nerd

3 Ways to Unleash Your Inner Nerd

While the word “nerd” used to be considered an insult as little as 20 years ago, nowadays, it’s something that everyone embraces, and it’s beautiful.

Whether it’s science, math, Marvel movies, Disney, anime, or anything else, it’s all embraced now. Everyone can just enjoy themselves and what they like and even allow their hobby to go to the next level. Do you have an inner nerd? Chances are, yes, you do! So, here are some fun ways to unleash it and have some fun with your interests!

Start By Being Part of a Community

The whole point of wanting to unleash this is to be around others who love it too. It gives you a chance to learn about it, and to a degree, it helps cradle this interest and love that you have. So, why does this matter? If you are around positive people that partake in the same hobbies as you, you’ll learn, you’ll make friends, and it’s just nice having people who understand what you mean.

For instance, if you’re into painting and collection models, then being a part of a community means that you may discover an Online Scale Model Shop that will meet your hobbies and needs. Plus, for a lot of hobbies, there are events like conventions where people get together to express their passions.

Join a Club

This goes hand in hand with being part of a community, but if you’re able to, depending on the topic itself you’re interested in, there may even be a club. Granted, more and more clubs are being geared towards children. If you live in a major city, it’s honestly going to be easy enough to either find a club to join or even get started on one. But again, depending on the topic, such as anime, math, or science, these may be more child-geared. But there are still associations out there that are perfect for adults. Sometimes there aren’t official clubs, but get-togethers and events for people with the same interest that you could also take a look at.

Just Keep Learning

What’s more nerdy than learning? Giving yourself a chance to continue learning is only going to make you enjoy your hobbies and interests even further. Nerds often enjoy aspects of pop culture, intellectual pursuits, and solitary activities, such as board games, film (including directors or composers), tech gadgets, and hacking. They may also be into classical music, fine art, or chess. When learning a new skill, don’t worry about being world-class. Studies have shown that it takes more than 10,000 hours to master a skill, and most people will never reach that level anyway.

To keep yourself on track, pick one skill that you want to learn and stick with it until you succeed. Focusing on multiple things at once will only frustrate you and make it more likely that you’ll quit. Also, be sure to reward yourself for each small win. The brain responds to positive reinforcement with the same pleasure as actual success. Honestly, just pick whatever you want; there isn’t a clear category on what’s nerdy and what’s not. It’s really about fully embracing what you love!
