Top Ten Things to do in Norwich
Even if you’re local, like we are, it’s all too easy to forget about all the things to do in Norwich.
And if you’re coming from afar, well, this will be useful for you as well.
Here’s our list of the top ten things to do in Norwich:
- Norwich Cathedral – Visit the magnificent cathedral which dates back to Norman times and was completed in 1145. Marvel at its beautiful architecture, stained glass windows and gothic style. It recently housed Dippy (from the Natural History Museum in London) on its tour around the UK, seeing thousands of people come through the doors.
- Norwich Castle Museum and Art Gallery – This fascinating museum has something for everyone, from art and archaeology to natural history and scientific collections. The stunning castle was built in the 12th century and has a rich historical past. And do you know the most exciting part for us? Nope, not the Iceni part… we got married here in 2022!

- Norwich Market – Dating back to the 11th century, Norwich Market is one of the largest and most famous markets in the UK. It offers over 200 stalls selling everything from fresh produce to handmade crafts and jewellery. We love how colourful it is – and Mr Iceni’s favourite stall, the Big Deal’s Bodega, can be found here, too!

- The Plantation Garden – This hidden gem is a beautiful Victorian-inspired garden with a stunning gothic fountain, a maze, a summerhouse and a picturesque viewpoint. It’s almost like stepping back in time and home to a wide range of wildlife.

- Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts – This award-winning museum showcases contemporary and modern art from all over the world. The building itself is a masterpiece of modern design. The 350-acre outdoor sculpture park is a must-visit location.

- The Lanes – Quirky and colourful, the lanes are a network of narrow streets jam-packed with independent boutiques, antique shops and vintage stores. And let’s not forget food and drink – the Amaretto delicatessen is one of our favourites!
- Norwich Puppet Theatre – This unique theatre is dedicated to puppetry and offers a varied program of shows suitable for all ages. There’s also a puppetry museum where you can learn about the art and history of puppetry.
- Museum of Norwich at the Bridewell – As the name suggests, this museum showcases everything Norwich from medieval times to the present day. Textiles, chocolate and mustard are all notable inclusions in the features, and it’s exciting to check out the interactive features and listen to the audio diaries.

- Whitlingham Country Park – Just outside the hustle and bustle of the main city lies a place of peace and tranquillity (or it certainly can be!). Perfect for walks (there’s a wheelchair accessible route, too) and cycling, Whitlingham Broad is popular with locals as well as tourists. The wildlife here is mesmerising as well. The Outdoor Education Centre also offers a range of activities for adrenaline seekers.

- Carrow Road – This football ground dates opened on 31st August 1935 and has a capacity of just over 27,000 for its football matches. Home to Norwich City FC, you can often get your hands on a ticket or two for a match if you head online. They do tours on a regular basis, which also include a meal at Yellows.
