A Gentleman’s Guide To Poolside Style

A Gentleman’s Guide To Poolside Style

Many of us spend all year looking forward to our summer holidays, when we can relax by the pool with an ice-cold pint of beer.

But, if you’re unsure of what you should be wearing while you’re chilling out, preparing and packing for your getaway can be stressful. To help prevent this from taking some of the shine off your time away, we’ve put together this gentleman’s guide to poolside style.

If you have no idea what you should take on holiday, or you’re bored of the usual vest and shorts combo you’ve worn year after year, read on to find out more.

With swim shorts, choose quality over quantity

When you’re putting your holiday wardrobe together, it can be tempting to buy enough brightly-coloured swim shorts to wear a new pair every day. But, with swimming shorts, you do get what you pay for, so we would always recommend investing in two or three stylish pairs that fit you perfectly, instead. Opting for those with a timeless design that you can wear every summer for the next few years is a good idea, too.

Joseph Turner offers a range of men’s swim shorts in sporty but fashionable designs. And, the price is reflected in their quality: they’re tailored in a way that will ensure you look your best, and you’ll be able to rely on them for years to come. So, they’re well worth the investment.

Swap your vest for a fashionable polo shirt

While you might be tempted to pack the pile of holidays vests that you’ve had since visiting Ibiza a few years ago, these won’t earn you the style points you’re looking for. So, leave those in the back of your wardrobe and treat yourself to a selection of fashionable polo shirts that you can wear by the pool, out to a restaurant at night, and even to smart casual events when you get home.

If the majority of the swim shorts you’ve bought are patterned, we would recommend opting for plain polo shirts, and vice versa. This will help to ensure that your outfits are perfectly balanced, rather than being too busy or boring. And, don’t shy away from colour: paired with a complementary pair of shorts, a lemon, orange, or teal polo shirt is going to look a lot more stylish than one in white.

If wearing a polo shirt around the pool is going to take you out of your comfort zone, it’s well worth looking into different ways that you can style one. Fashion Beans has a guide to wearing polo shirts this summer, which contains all of the inspiration you could possibly need.

Treat your feet to a pair of espadrilles or sliders

Your toe-post flip flops might have served you well up until now but, if you want to look fashion conscious and on-trend, treat your feet to a pair of sliders or espadrilles. They’re stylish and incredibly comfortable, making them perfect for poolside life.

If you’re looking for the perfect sliders, you’ll struggle to find a pair better than those from Gucci. They’re the shoes of the moment and are so comfortable that you’ll continue to wear them long after you return home. Or, if espadrilles are more your style, consider buying a pair from TOMS. Not only are their shoes fashionable but, for every pair you buy, the brand will donate a pair of shoes to a child in need. So, as well as buying some fantastic footwear, you’ll be giving back.

If you have no idea what to wear when you head down to the pool on holiday, taking these tips on board should help. By choosing quality swim shorts, swapping your old vests for sophisticated polo shirts, and upgrading your footwear, you’ll be able to ensure you look and feel your best while you’re relaxing on your sun lounger.
