Anonymous Teacher Reacts To: Marking
The recent release of information surrounding Key Stage Two SATS answers being marked as incorrectly because the comma was incorrectly formed has angered me.
The pupil hadn’t mistaken an apostrophe for a comma; the comma simply didn’t curl back under and round! Why are we being so picky with ten and eleven year olds?
What would the government rather we did: spend time teaching children how to read and write properly and effectively OR spend time getting them to form punctuation marks exactly according to expectations? I shouldn’t even be asking the above question.
It is just another example of the crazy way in which education is heading in this country. I seriously worry for my own children who will be going through the system soon!
