News From Westacre Theatre – Spring 2016 Season

Westacre Theatre spaces (23)

What is Westacre?  What happens at Westacre and when?  Where is Westacre?  Well, a warm welcome awaits you at Westacre Theatre which has been offering inspiring, inclusive and creative excellence in the heart of West Norfolk for a quarter of a century.  And Westacre is probably the only all-year-round rural performance venue in the whole of East Anglia.  So, Westacre is different.

In rolling countryside, Westacre Theatre’s scenic setting comes complete with landscaped lagoon.  Centrally located 10 minutes from Swaffham, 20 minutes from King’s Lynn, and around half-an-hour from Downham Market, Watton, Dereham and Fakenham it is easily accessible to most communities in West Norfolk.

And now Westacre Theatre has just revealed a packed programme of productions for its new Spring Season.  A profusion of performances from January to April, it is a spectacular selection with something to suit everyone.

The in-house company, enjoying total sell-outs in the Autumn Season, now return for the much admired Talking Heads from Alan Bennett.  Specially written for television, the insightful dramas progressed onto radio and then into theatre.  In February and April, Westacre Theatre faithfully replicate four of the characterisations made famous in the first television screenings by the well-known names of Maggie Smith, Patricia Routledge, Thora Hird and Bennett himself.

March sees a memorable translation by Tom Stoppard.  Heroes is a Parisian comedy set during 1959 in a French Retirement Home for First World War Veterans.  This will be an evening of pure escapism originally brought to life in the West End by John Hurt, Richard Griffiths and Ken Stott.

Westacre Theatre has also been chosen by the National Theatre as the only venue in West Norfolk to offer the opportunity for young people to join in a countrywide festival.  The Musicians, especially written for the National by Patrick Marber, will be performed by the youngsters at Westacre in April.

You have three chances in March to see the Master and the Maestro – Noel and Cole – celebrating two of the 20th Century’s Greatest Showmen.

Film fans are provided with no less than a dozen special screenings at Westacre on Wednesdays.  Meryl’s Matinees is a short season of Streep on screen – Out of Africa, The Iron Lady, Sophie’s Choice, and The Devil Wears Prada.  But rest assured there are many more delightful films to savour in the comfort of our Studio Theatre.  And when booking your theatre seat, you can also reserve your place in the Café-Bar for a delicious freshly-prepared lunch.  For a romantic rendezvous on St Valentine’s Day itself, the classic Casablanca is just what you need.

Shakespeare’s 400th weekend in April is celebrated suitably with a Saturday evening Supper followed by a film of Macbeth.  By way of contrast, Sunday lunch is on offer accompanied by a screening of Shakespeare in Love.

Matt Grist, Director at Westacre Theatre, added ‘There is even more scope to become involved with drama workshops, art classes, and craftwork master-classes.  There is always something new going on here at Westacre so please check out our website www.westacretheatre.com (or call us on 01760 755800) for up-to-date details throughout the Spring Season.’
