The best way to maintain your indoor tennis court

The best way to maintain your indoor tennis court

After Wimbledon last summer, many people have been inspired to take up tennis.

Tennis is a fantastic sport to get you moving and socialising with others. You can play outside in the hot weather or on an indoor court in the winter. You can squeeze in your cardio for the day and improve your hand-eye coordination.

Sport England found that 635,700 people play tennis at least twice a month – with varying degrees of intensity and duration. Tennis is a popular sport in the UK, and many people enjoy playing a leisurely game with friends.

If you own an indoor tennis court – it’s important to maintain it throughout the year. Follow this quick guide to ensure your tennis court is in good condition.

Daily maintenance

If you use your tennis court regularly, you need to look into daily maintenance. You should inspect the court for scuffing, loose nails and tape lifting. You can make some baseline repairs and redress if needed. Look out for any areas that are starting to wear, and fix them as needed. It’s better to maintain your court regularly, so you don’t need to make much larger repairs down the line.

Wash out court basins daily and clean the benches and coolers. The coolers should have fresh water every day for the players to drink. Ensure the net and centre strap is straight and sweep the line tapes. Empty the bins and double-check the court for any rubbish. No one wants to play tennis on a dirty court.

Repairs

Indoor tennis courts tend to have dips and cracks on the surface after a while. If you find the floor is regularly cracking, hire a professional to take a look. Your property may be gradually moving or sinking from the earth around it.

Tennis court painting

Your indoor court should be painted regularly to maintain a clear surface. You can use specialised floor paint to keep the surface in good condition. Floor paint will also help reduce the slip hazard for players and improve the surface grip for the ball. Your court will look brand new with a fresh lick of paint.

Use the right shoes

Outdoor shoes can damage the court and make maintenance work more difficult. Ask players to only wear indoor tennis shoes on the court to avoid excess damage. Your court will look far better over time.

Storage of equipment

You need to store the equipment for your court correctly. The net, spare rackets, ball machine and tennis balls should be safe and secure. Do not throw the equipment in a big pile and hope for the best. Things will get broken, and you will need to invest in more items.

Keep your tennis court in good condition with these maintenance tips.
