Top Casino Movies in 2021

Here we’ll go over the best gambling movies on Netflix in 2021. These movies were all well received in their time and continue to be classics today.

Casino (1995)

Casino is widely regarded as a masterpiece. This classic from Martin Scorsese stars veteran actors Robert de Niro and Joe Pesci, who are no strangers to the crime genre. It’s arguably considered one of the best gamble Netflix movies.

The story deals with Nicky Santoro and Ace Rothstein trying to make a career change from being two higher-ranking mafia members to casino managers in Vegas. Some habits don’t die quickly, though. The movie has plenty of action and twists and turns. It’s a must-watch for any casino fan.

Casino Royale (2006)

What happens when you mix James Bond and casinos? You get Casino Royale. The movie marked the debut of Daniel Craig as James Bond, a world-famous spy. Casinos have been featured throughout the series, but the whole gambling theme plays a central role in the plot.

The movie has many familiar trappings you would expect from a Bond movie. Some have even said it had the best bond girl of all. Casino Royale also partially reinvented the series and is easily regarded as one of the most popular Bond titles.

Rain Man (1988)

While casinos aren’t a central part of the plot, Rain Man does have an excellent casino scene. The movie stars both Tom Cruise and Dustin Hoffman. Hoffman plays the role of Cruise’s brother, who happens to be an autistic savant.

One of the iconic scenes of the movie has Cruise and Hoffman playing blackjack at a casino. Due to his Savant abilities, Hoffman can count cards and scores a winning streak. When they are eventually figured out, they get thrown out of the casino. Rain Man was hugely popular and the highest-grossing film of 1988.

Ocean’s 11 (2001)

Rather than playing at a casino, Ocean’s 11 looks at a group of thieves who attempt to rob a casino much like a bank. The film takes its name from Danny Ocean, one of the lead characters played by George Clooney and the 11 thieves. The film ended up spawning two sequels.

The gang aims to rob not one but three casinos in Vegas. Danny Ocean, fresh out of prison, travels to Vegas with his long time friend, and they end up recruiting the others to pull off the heist. The film was number five of the highest-grossing movies of 2001.

Rounders (1998)

Matt Damon is perhaps best known for his role as Jason Bourne. In this 1998 movie, he plays the role of Mike McDermont, a university Law student who’s also exceptionally gifted at playing poker. Unfortunately for him, he loses at a game to Teddy KGB.

The loss puts him in debt, but things get worse when one of his friends also loses in a poker game, and now there are two debts to pay off. The story revolves around him finding a way to pay off both debts, graduate from school and stay with his girlfriend. Eventually, he finds himself in Vegas in a high stakes game to win everything back.

Conclusion

That rounds out our list of five popular casino movies. If you prefer something a bit more educational, you can watch a Netflix gambling documentary as well. There’s a great mix of stories for all tastes. We’re sure one of the above could be your next favourite.
