MiniDonks launch FREE activity packs for care homes
Miniature Donkeys for Wellbeing (MiniDonks), a Norfolk-based social enterprise which delivers mood-boosting miniature donkey visits across the region, has been busy during lockdown creating MiniDonk themed activity packs for care homes and other settings.
Now, thanks to funding from the Coronavirus Community Support Fund, distributed by The National Lottery Community Fund, the organisation will be distributing 500 packs to care homes completely free of charge. Thanks to the Government for making this possible.
“One of our volunteers came up with the idea of an activity pack for care homes,” explains Sarah McPherson, founder and managing director of MinDonks. “We know that people living in care homes are finding it hard not being able to receive visits and take part in some of their usual activities, and staff are doing an amazing job of keeping them safe. We wanted to help to fill that gap with some donkey themed activities. We trialled the pack with some of the care homes we visit and the feedback has been amazing.
“Funding from the Coronavirus Community Support Fund means that we have been able to make up 500 packs to send out, completely free of charge, to care homes across the region,” continues Sarah. “What we need now is for people to email us with the names and addresses of care homes that they think would appreciate a pack. We already have over 250 homes on our list, but we don’t want anyone to miss out.”
The MiniDonk activity packs include games that can be played in small groups and activities than can be carried out individually. They include Donkey! and Donkey Drive, mindfulness colouring sheets, three levels of sudoku and wordsearch, make your own donkey face mask, and so much more.
