Learning How To Put Contact Lenses In For The First Time
Getting your first set of contact lenses is exciting, and you’re no doubt looking forward to doing away with glasses.
That said, learning how to put in contact lenses for the first time can be daunting, especially if you struggle with having anything going near your eyes (as many people do!). While it’ll take some time to get used to, the reality is that before long, it’ll become second nature – you’ll just need to practice a little first is all.
The first step is to start with clean hands. Wash both hands thoroughly with warm, soapy water, and be sure to dry them properly with a lint-free towel (you don’t want any fibers getting on your contacts). From there, it’s all about a swift, accurate movement.
It’s considered best to begin with the hand you write with. Starting with the contact lens on your finger with the eye side up, you’ll need to open your eye wide and gently place the lens on the colored part (otherwise known as the iris). Once the lens is seated, blink a few times to allow it to settle, and make sure that you can focus properly. You can then repeat for the other eye.
You will typically be able to wear your contact lenses for 8 to 16 hours, and remember not to shower with them. Check out the handy infographic below for crystal-clear instructions with easy-to-follow images. It might take a few tries at first, but don’t worry – you’ll have it down in no time!
