Exploring Norfolk: The Top 10 Campervan Destinations

Norfolk, a county in East Anglia, England, is a treasure trove of natural beauty and rich history just waiting to be explored.

For those seeking a unique and adventurous way to experience Norfolk, a campervan trip is the perfect choice.

Here, we present the top 10 places to take your campervan in Norfolk for an unforgettable journey through picturesque landscapes and charming towns.

1. The Norfolk Broads
The Norfolk Broads, a network of rivers and lakes with serene waterways and abundant wildlife, is a camper’s paradise. Set up camp beside the water and spend your days cruising the Broads on a boat or simply enjoying the tranquil surroundings. We adore the waters regardless of the weather. Don’t forget to look out for the Ice Float if you fancy an ice cream while you’re sailing. It’s bright pink, so shouldn’t be too hard to spot!

2. Holkham Hall
Holkham Hall, a grand 18th-century mansion surrounded by stunning parkland, offers a unique camping experience. Park your campervan nearby and explore the estate’s expansive grounds, including the beautiful Holkham Beach.

3. Cromer
Known for its sandy beaches and iconic pier, Cromer is a popular seaside destination for campervan enthusiasts. Enjoy fresh seafood, take a stroll along the promenade, and if you’re lucky, catch a performance at the Cromer Pier Pavilion Theatre. Cromer holds a special place in our hearts as Mr Iceni proposed on the pier here – we love visiting.

4. Thetford Forest
For nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts, Thetford Forest is a must-visit destination. Camp among the trees, go hiking or mountain biking on the forest trails, and don’t miss a visit to High Lodge Forest Centre for family-friendly activities.

5. Burnham Market
Dubbed as “Chelsea-on-Sea,” Burnham Market is a charming village with upscale boutiques, art galleries, and quaint cafes. Park your campervan in a nearby campsite and explore the picturesque streets lined with Georgian buildings.

6. Great Yarmouth
Great Yarmouth, a traditional seaside resort town, offers a mix of classic amusement arcades, sandy beaches and historic sites. Stay at a campsite near the town and enjoy the vibrant atmosphere and entertainment options. While its ‘80s vibe might not be everyone’s taste, we believe that it has something for everyone. The Pleasure Beach and Joyland alone would entertain our kids for hours.

7. Wells-next-the-Sea
Wells-next-the-Sea is a delightful coastal town with colourful beach huts, a bustling quay and a picturesque harbour. Set up camp nearby and spend your days exploring the town, walking along the sandy beach or birdwatching at the nearby nature reserves.

8. Sheringham
Nestled along the North Norfolk coast, Sheringham is a quaint town known for its Blue Flag beach and heritage steam railway. Park your campervan in a campsite overlooking the sea and enjoy the town’s traditional charm and scenic beauty. It’s one of our favourite little coastal locations and definitely not one to be missed.

9. Norwich
The vibrant “fine” city of Norwich offers a mix of historic sites, cultural attractions and lively nightlife. Stay at a campsite on the outskirts of the city and explore Norwich Cathedral, Norwich Castle and the bustling market. The Lanes offer the opportunity for some quirkier shopping, whereas for bigger brands, try Castle Quarter or Chantry Place. Don’t forget Jarrold’s if you like an independent department store.

10. Blickling Estate
Blickling Estate, a historic stately home with magnificent gardens and parkland, is a great spot for campervan camping. Explore the estate’s grand house, wander through the landscaped gardens and enjoy a picnic on the sprawling lawns. If you’re there late at night, look out for the ghost of Anne Boleyn that is said to haunt the area!

Norfolk is a diverse and captivating county with a wealth of campervan-friendly destinations waiting to be discovered. Whether you prefer coastal towns, historic sites, or natural landscapes, this stunning county has something to offer every camper.

So, pack your bags, hit the road in your campervan and embark on an unforgettable adventure through the stunning landscapes of Norfolk (even if you do already live here!). But don’t forget to ensure you have permission or paid to set up camp where you choose.
