Alex Wiseman Interviews G4… again!
To celebrate my 10th anniversary writing for the Iceni Magazine later this year, I am interviewing the lovely G4 (for the 4th time)!
Alex: Oh it’s lovely to be interviewing you again after a few years…
G4: Thank you Alex; we’ve missed you!
Alex: Before I go any further and on behalf of myself and the readers of Iceni Magazine, we are so sorry to hear of the passing of Ben (founding band member who sadly died in September).
G4: Thank you. Yes, it’s been a huge shock for us of course, but we have found it cathartic to be on tour together to help each other through it. It still doesn’t seem real however.
Alex: He will always be remembered for his amazing talent.
G4: He was one of the founding members back at music college (Guildhall School of Music & Drama, hence the G in the name) right up until 2018 when he left to pursue his solo opera career, which has been busy, successful and varied for him. He had perfect pitch so he would always give us our starting notes when we sang any a cappella.
Alex: Now if my maths is correct, you are celebrating 20 years as G4! How is that even possible?
G4: It’s absolutely crazy, but yes this year marks two decades from when we appeared on The X Factor back in 2004, and we wanted to celebrate the occasion by releasing a new album and embarking on a 72-date theatre tour. Oh, plus an extra 37 dates on our G4 Christmas tour which is mainly in cathedrals!
Alex: And of course you now have Jai McDowall (Winner of Britain’s Got Talent, 2011) in the band! What a great time you must all have…
G4: His vocals are insane on the new album, and he brings vocal fireworks to the tour show, so it’s such an honour to now have him on board.
Alex: Christmas must start around November for you all now! I remember the Christmas with G4 shows being about 10 dates in mid December….
G4: Our G4 Christmas tour starts on 8th November this year and goes on right up to Christmas itself and a bit beyond with four shows between Christmas and New Year.
Alex: Are there any different songs in the show this year?
G4: Whilst we are doing a number of festive classics each year, we always add some new songs and of course a few surprises!
Alex: What can fans expect if they haven’t been to a G4 Christmas Concert before?
G4: Four guys singing festive favourites in the most stunning cathedrals, minsters and abbeys across the UK.
Alex: At this point I would say book tickets for the Norwich show but it’s almost sold out…even I missed my chance!
G4: I believe it has already sold out. We are so grateful for the incredible support out there for this tour, as it all sells out in advance.
Alex: What’s planned next for the band?
G4: We are currently finalising the G4 Christmas tour for next year can you believe, but the tickets for that will go on sale on 1st November this year! People do have to book early to ensure getting good seats.
Alex: As always it’s been an absolute pleasure to speak to you, good luck with the tour!
G4: Thank you Alex; we appreciate your support!
