Spray Tan Didn’t Go So Well? Here’s How to Remove It

Spray Tan Didn't Go So Well?

You thought a spray tan would be the best way to look great at the pool or upcoming event. So, you prepped, follow the application steps, and waited the desired time without a shower.

When you looked in the mirror the result wasn’t what you expected. It was patchy in some areas, striped in others, and your eyebrows had an unpleasant orange to them.

Time to Go

Obviously, you need to completely remove self tanning product from your skin to start from scratch. However, you’re unsure of the first steps. Plus, you’re a bit hesitant you won’t get it all off to add a new layer.

Thankfully, we know how to get rid of a tan the right way. In turn, you’ll be able to make another attempt or get someone to help you out. No matter the circumstance, the second time certainly can’t be worse than the first.

Here’s how to remove self tanner in several situations.

From Your Body

There are a few ways this can be done. First, if you’re not too embarrassed to be seen in public, you can go for a swim in the pool. The chlorine in the water helps to soften the spray components so they can be removed in the shower.

Another way to make this happen is to mix a body scrub with a small amount of bath oil. The granular components in the scrub will be absorbed into the skin and start to break down the spray. Meanwhile, bath oil keeps the areas moisturized.

If you need your tan quickly removed then look for a self tanning eraser. Apply it to the affected areas, wait a few minutes, then wash the areas off. While effective, they might cause irritation if you have sensitive skin.

From Hands and Feet

Being more sensitive than other parts of the body, how to get rid of a tan on hands and feet requires a different treatment.

All you need is a few tablespoons of baking soda and water to make a paste. Next, rub it into hands and feet and make sure it gets into all the lines. Wait for a few minutes then wash it off those areas. Repeat if any spray tan remains.

Eliminating Tan Streaks

These can develop for a few reasons. Perhaps you applied spray tan to your torso first then your legs second. This would result in strange streaks from bending over. Another reason would be too heavy a spray in one area, thus causing the tan liquid to run down.

To remove these simply run a bath with bath oil. As it softens the tan it will also allow you to remove the streaks and other tanned patches with an exfoliating creme or mitt.

Reapplying Spray Tan

If you want to try applying a spray tan again you need follow the original steps. However, make sure this time around you follow the directions, start at the legs, spray evenly, and keep the nozzle at least eight inches from the area.

In the end, don’t panic. And don’t recklessly try to scrub the tan off. Not only is this ineffective but also could irritate your skin. In addition, you’ll probably feel like the spray might never come off.

However, if you take it easy and follow the recommendations above, removing the spray tan will be easier than you believe. Remember, softening the tan is the most important step to pulling the color of the spray tan from your skin.

And rather than considering it a failure, think about it as lessons learned. Thus, when you work on a spray tan next time, you’ll know what not to do. That way, you can head out to the pool or that special event with an even and golden tan.
