North Norfolk Eatery Has Been Named As The County's Best

The White Horse Inn in Brancaster has been named as the county’s best in the National Pub and Bar Awards 2018.

The charming restaurant has been singled out amongst thousands to win the title of the best in Norfolk, but this certainly isn’t the first time The White Horse Inn has been recognised for its high quality. With previous nominations and awards including a previous crowning of the Best Pub & Bar in the East of England in 2016 and an SRA Food Made Good award in both 2017 and 2018, this title comes as no surprise to fans of the incredible pub and bar.

The National Pub And Bar Awards 2018

The National Pub And Bar Awards celebrate the nation’s best each year. 94 county winners are announced first, decided upon by the Pub & Bar Magazine’s internal judging panel by looking at everything “from perfect service to the product range, aesthetic design or entertainment schedules.” These 94 county winners are then invited to the BAFTA theatre in Piccadilly for the grand final, where 15 regional winners are announced.

This final also sees the crowning of the overall National Pub & Bar of the Year, a much sought-after title by pubs, bars and restaurants across the country.

The White Horse, Brancaster Staithe

The White Horse Inn in Brancaster Staithe is no stranger to recognition, regularly listed as one of the best pubs in the country by experts and novices in the industry alike. Situated in Northern Norfolk, this pub is often praised for its enviable position by the coastline, with views to enjoy for miles for restaurant-goers and guests at the inn.

There’s no denying that this pub and restaurant has certainly earned its nomination and award. During the summer months, they open up the deck to those wanting to eat in the sun and enjoy the view across the water, while the colder weather is easily avoided with a warm but spacious conservatory restaurant.

The coastal theme is subtle but enjoyable, from the relaxing décor to the incredible seafood dishes they have on offer. With 7 menus to choose from including Lunch, Dinner, Kid’s, Dessert, Bar Menu, Wine Menu and even an Afternoon Tea menu, tastes are catered for regardless of age, time of day or preference.

As a testament to the unique nature of The White Horse, Rob Williamson, the General Manager for the pub, says “the directors … give us creative freedom, products play a big part, and we get the community involved in what we do.”

The White Horse’s Head Chef Fran Hartshorne works hard daily to deliver the best food to each and every guest that passes through the restaurant’s doors. From unique combinations (though perhaps not AS unique as they might get – just a heads up to the chef!), to crowd favourites to suit the traditional guests, this Norfolk eatery has a trick up its sleeve for all its guests.

More Than Just A Pub

The White Horse Inn proves itself time and time again as a worthy business to earn the title of best pub & bar in Norfolk and not simply due to its incredible food, drink and service.

In December 2017, The White Horse earned the AA 3 Silver Star hospitality award, a prestigious award earned for their quality standards after a recent inspection. This inspection took into account overall quality across their restaurant, bar and hotel, including services, facilities and other areas of service.

Their service to the local area is also worthy of recognition. Each year, The White Horse opens its doors to children from the Brancaster Primary School for a morning of fun relating to healthy eating. This year’s annual visit saw pupils enjoy colouring their own salad bowls, play scrabble, try their hand at carrying trays filled with glasses of water and even making their own pasta and fruit kebabs with the pub’s chef.

One of the pupils went on to win a meal for his family and a prize by designing a new menu, which the pub now prints as their main design for the children’s menu.

The White Horse Pub take pride in helping children to explore food and cooking as part of their education and this is just one show of their dedication to involving the local community in the daily running of the pub.

The National Pub & Bar Awards 2018 look to be some of the biggest and best yet. With new sponsorship and support from leading companies like Walkers, Budweiser and Samsung, Pub & Bar Magazine have been given the perfect opportunity to fully support and celebrate the country’s best pubs to the fullest.

The White Horse Inn sits among 94 of the best for this year’s awards and is set to compete against the Galvin Green Man, The Bell in Studham, The Salisbury Arms, The Alford Arms and The Turks Head for the title of Regional best for the East of England at this year’s awards.
