Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital gets green light on infection control

Following a recent visit from NHS Improvement, the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (NNUH) has improved its position to that of Infection Prevention Level Green, the highest of three assessment gradings.

Dr Debra Adams, Head of Infection Prevention and Control for Midlands and East NHS Improvement visited the Trust in late February 2018. Dr Adams visited various clinical areas of her choice and held discussions with the Director of Nursing, the Trust Infection Prevention and Control Team, the Infection Prevention and Control Nurse from the Clinical Commissioning Group, Matrons, Allied Health Professionals, the Antimicrobial Team, NNUH Facilities and Estates teams as well as Octagon and Serco colleagues.

Dr Adams also inspected a number of medical and surgical wards and the Emergency Department and talked to staff working in those areas about Infection Prevention and Control. Dr Adams noted that: “All of the staff I met were proud to work in your Trust. Furthermore, they all articulated actions taken in their areas to promote infection prevention and demonstrated that infection prevention was high on their priority list.”

Sarah Morter, Senior Nurse for Infection Prevention and Control said:  “The infection prevention and control team at NNUH were proud that the Trust achieved the green rating from NHSI.  This result is evidence that infection prevention procedures are in place and demonstrates the considerable commitment all staff have in working towards protecting patients, visitors and colleagues from avoidable infection.”

Frances Bolger, Acting Director of Nursing at NNUH said: “This feedback from the visit is as a result of trust wide effort and dedication to promote good infection prevention practice.  I’d like to share my thanks to all those who have contributed to this result.”
