Mullets, Flares and Uggs: Brits Rank their Unforgivable Fashion Mistakes

beach-825535_1280

Shell suits, Crocs, Uggs and ‘mullets’ have been named as the most unforgiveable fashion mistakes of all time.

Originally intended for sports use, the shell suit emerged in the 1980s but rapidly became ‘lounge wear’.

It topped the fashion faux pax above tattoos, flares, Crocs, fake tan, platforms, oversize jeans, Ugg boots, tracksuits and ‘bell bottoms’.

The poll of 2,000 UK adults was commissioned to launch anCnoc [corr] Scotch whisky’s collaboration with award-winning fashion designer Patrick Grant, who has designed a bespoke print for their new limited edition ‘Blas’ single malt.

The infamous ‘mullet’ hairstyle was voted 11th biggest fashion mistake, ahead of corduroy, ‘sagging’ and ‘low-rise’ pants, camouflage wear and Hawaiian shirts.

At the other end of the catwalk, Doc Marten shoes and boots were named as the most successful fashion comeback.

While ‘traditional’ items such as braces, pocket squares and tweed blazers were also high in the list – along with jumpsuits, Fred Perry shirts and crop tops.

Stephanie Allison, anCnoc brand manager, said: “This survey shows how some fashions are able to transcend time and sub cultures.

“Those that have successfully been transported into the 21st century are classic styles such as braces, tweed blazers and pocket squares which are now as popular as they ever were.

“These ‘modern traditions’ have parallels with our new limited edition expression Blas which has been crafted using traditional production methods, but features a new contemporary design by Patrick who has interpreted anCnoc’s history and tradition in a thoroughly modern way.”
