How one couple have moved back to Norfolk to realise their dreams of running a luxury campsite and living off the land

Having met at Wymondham College as teenagers, 15 years and 2 children later Kate Symonds and Seb Burns have returned to Norfolk to set up a luxury campsite near Lenwade called Round the Woods.

Round the Woods have two beautiful handcrafted yurts, set in 17 acres, providing all that their guests need to stay in complete comfort, making this the perfect stress-free escape.

After college Kate and Seb both studied at Oxford Brookes University, spent 10 months travelling around the world together and lived in London for 7 years. Once their first child Elliot arrived in December 2013 they felt the need to reprioritise their lives and escape the chaos of London to find some space for the family.

Inspired by a lifelong interest in the environment and outdoor living they decided to take the plunge and leave behind their careers in teaching and environmental management. They moved to Fairfield House in July 2014, enticed by the beautiful land, particularly woodland, that came with the property.

Kate says  ”We want to share this beautiful corner of the world and give our guests the chance to switch off, slow down and engage in the natural surroundings.”

Oak Tree and Hazelnut yurts allow guests to experience this in luxury, style and comfort with a first class service to meet guests’ every need. Kate and Seb encourage their guests to explore the woodland, wildlife meadow and grassland and to appreciate the wide variety of wildlife to be found at Round the Woods and all that the site has to offer. Go to sleep admiring the stars through the yurt’s skylight and wake up to bird song and the chance of seeing wild deer wandering past your yurt. Spend your afternoons relaxing in the hammock and your evening’s cosying up in front of the woodburner watching the hunting barn owl.

The yurts have king size beds, Hungarian goose down duvets & pillows, soft cotton bedding, fluffy towels, a welcome hamper and a fully equipped cooking area with gas hobs and grill, a woodburner oven as well as a bbq outside.

Round the Woods is located in the Wensum Valley in mid Norfolk, perfectly situated to access to all that Norfolk has to offer, including spectacular beaches, the winding waterways of the Broads, culture in Norwich and Thetford forest.

Kate and Seb aim to run Round the Woods as environmentally responsibly as possible, having converted a used shipping container into luxury shower facilities, installed solar panels and by using eco cleaning products. To support them in this they have recently joined the Green Tourism Scheme and are awaiting grading.

Round the Woods is a glampsite with two yurts set within 17 acres on the outskirts of Weston Longville. The fully furnished yurts are open for guests between March and October and bookings can be made directly on the website http://www.roundthewoods.co.uk/ or by calling 01603 870 394. Round the Woods opened in August 2015 and received great reviews. A yurt can be booked from £85 per night for 2 people and prices vary for midweek and weekend and high and low season.
