‘Freakshakes’ Contain A Whopping 1,500 Calories

‘Freakshakes’ Contain A Whopping 1,500 Calories

These monstrous milkshakes could be Britain’s unhealthiest drinks – overflowing with chocolate, cookies and cream and oozing with 1,500 CALORIES.

The deliciously decadent creations – dubbed ‘freakshakes’ – have the same amount of calories as two full English breakfasts, two roast dinners or 19 Freddos.

Drizzled with sauce, showered in sprinkles, cookies, marshmallows and pretzels and topped with doughnuts and cream, they are a terrifying drink/dessert mash-up.

The mega-calorie shakes are being whipped up by staff at Beehive Coffee House, who deny that there is anything wrong with glugging one down as an occasional treat.

Flavours include Oreo, peanut butter, coffee, honey, vanilla and chocolate, with the sticky, sweet caramel flavour being the least healthy.

There are also slightly healthier options which are loaded with fresh fruit, such as coconut, strawberry and raspberry.

And every week, The Beehive have a special ‘Freak of the Week’ shake, with flavours ranging from Kinder Bueno to a Halloween-themed spooktacular.

Phoebe Lau, who took over the cafe in Downend, Bristol a year ago, said she got inspiration for the drinks from Instagram.

She said: “We let the customers see them and they were like, ‘They are absolutely ridiculous’. We asked if they would buy one and they said, ‘Yes.’

“We started making them six months ago and it has been crazy. People come from far and wide for a freakshake – we have had amazing feedback.

“People even come first thing in the morning to have one.

“We do have some regular customers – not people who have them every day, but once a week. It’s definitely more of a treat thing though.

“You’ve got to have something naughty every now and then to keep you happy. You need that little sugar rush.”

The shakes – which can be made so they are gluten free or vegan – cost £5.95 for standard flavours, £6.95 for the Freak of the Week or £3.50 for a kids version.

Phoebe, whose favourite flavour is raspberry, said the Oreo shake – which is made with crushed-up Oreos, chocolate buttons and vanilla ice cream – is the best seller.

She said: “We fit a lot into the cream so we have had a few mishaps.

“But we have never had anyone feel sick.

“We do have people who just come in, take a picture and then go after having a tiny bit but most people to tend to be able to finish them.

“Some people will have a full English breakfast and a freakshake and polish off the whole thing.

“We see some absolute champions.”
