Club kicks of fundraising year with £3,000 for NNUH breast cancer care

Club kicks of fundraising year with £3,000 for NNUH breast cancer care

A Norfolk flower and garden club has presented a cheque for £3,000 to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (NNUH) following a fantastic fundraising afternoon tea and flower arranging demonstration.

Breckland Flower and Garden Club has chosen the hospital’s Breast Cancer department as its charity for the year and will spend the next 12 months raising money to purchase equipment which will go to improving the care of patients in Norfolk.

The fundraising kicked off on Saturday (May 5th) with the event at Connaught Hall in Attleborough attended by hundreds of people all supporting the cause. The hall and tables were beautifully decorated in pink and white ahead of the main event and organiser Club President Christine Hewson and members of the club worked hard to pull everything together on the day, which was supported by organisations across the county who donated a variety of items.

The highlight was TV flower expert and floral designer Jonathan Moseley who brought his own special magic to the day with his flower arranging demonstration. Jonathan created a stage full of arrangements which were raffled off at the end of the day.

The Club came up with the idea for the special day and fundraising ambitions following the breast cancer diagnosis of a number of its members, including Maxine Mace.

Maxine said: “I was thrilled when the club announced breast cancer care at the hospital was their chosen charity for this year and I have been overwhelmed by the generosity of everyone who made this fantastic event happen.

“Being diagnosed with breast cancer you suddenly become aware how precious life is, today I am so glad to be here sharing this event with a wonderful group of ladies (and gentlemen).

“Raising £3,000  is an amazing amount to kick-off with, my hope is we can double this over the next 12 months and, knowing these ladies, we will.”

NNUH Fundraising Coordinator Lynn Crombie said: “It was fantastic to meet everyone who worked so hard to put on this event as well as everyone who came along to support the cause.

“We are so grateful to receive the cheque for £3,000 on behalf of our Breast Cancer department, which is part of the hospital charity, and delighted that Breckland Flower and Garden Club have chosen this area as their charity of the year.”
