Norwich Community Choir plan to end 10th anniversary year on a high with a unique adaptation of Allegri’s Miserere
Norwich Community Choir are busy rehearsing for their tenth anniversary concert.
This charity event will be held at Norwich Anglican Cathedral and songs will include the choir’s exclusive version of Allegri’s Miserere. This is a challenging piece for a community choir, where there are no auditions and many members can’t readmusic.
Meg Turpin, their choir leader says: “It’s very unusual for a community choir to tackle a piece like this. This ambitious reworking of Allegri’s masterpiece preserves the mood and sensuality of the original, whilst bringing it into the present with poignant lyrics taken from the words of our choir members expressing their feelings about belonging to thechoir.”
The choir has grown and developed from humble beginnings in 2008 to present a diverse and polished repertoire. The concert programme, performed entirely from memory, will also include many heartwarming songs and some festive anthems.
Proceeds from the event will go to Nelson’s Journey, a Norfolk charity who support bereaved children and young people. Sarah Hyde, Community Funding Officer for
Nelson’s Journey, told us: “We’re thrilled that Norwich Community Choir have chosen to support us in their 10th anniversary year. They join other wonderful fundraisers supporting us in our 20th anniversary year. Thank you to everyone involved.”
The cathedral concert takes place on Saturday 24th November 2018 at 7.30pm. Tickets are £10.00 and can be purchased by calling Ivan on 07423 118876 or from www.ticketsource.co.uk/norwich-community-choir.
