FLORAL DISPLAYS MARK NATIONAL CARE HOME OPEN DAY

FLORAL DISPLAYS MARK NATIONAL CARE HOME OPEN DAY

Seven care establishments in and around Wymondham took part in the town’s PATIO (“Put A Tub In the Open”) project, arranged to mark National Care Home Open Day on 21 June.

Each of the participating organisations were invited to take a container of wildlife-friendly flowers to the town’s Priory Garden, in Middleton Street and Wymondham Garden Club member, Marion Beesley, selected the tub prepared by Wymondham Day Centre as the competition winner.

A spokesperson for the Day Centre said they were delighted to receive the prize (provided by Rosedale Funeral Home) as the competition win coincided with the launch of a campaign to raise public awareness of the support the Day Centre offers to older people in area.

“It was a lovely idea and it was good to work together with other care establishments to raise awareness of what we all do.” she added.

After the announcement of the winner, all of the participants enjoyed complimentary refreshments at Wymondham Football Club, provided by Wymondham Country Market.

The PATIO project was suggested by Essex-based Dementia Adventure, a not-for-profit community interest company, which assists people living with dementia (in the wider community and in care settings) and their family carers, to experience the therapeutic value of connecting with nature and the green environment.

The local spokesman for Dementia Adventure is Tony Vale. He said: “The PATIO project has shown how a nature-themed activity can be used as a means to bring the local community together”.
