Highball Climbing Centre is inspiring future generations of climbers by introducing training sessions ‘HighballPlay’ aimed at youngsters with little or no experience of climbing.

As one of the biggest climbing centres in the UK and host of national competitions, Highball is set to harness youngsters’ growing interest in climbing and bouldering.

Since climbing was recognised as an official Olympic sport last summer, there has been a sharp increase in the number of children and teenagers scaling the walls at the family friendly centre on the outskirts of Norwich.

Acknowledged as one of the only sports to have ‘life-time participation’, this session is designed for both complete beginners and regulars. The new, one hour sessions ‘HighballPlay’ will enable children and teenagers aged 4 to 16 to try a series of fun climbing challenges – providing an ideal activity for the school holidays.

HighballPlay sessions can be booked for an individual child for a one on one session or they can be booked for groups of up to 12 so siblings and friends can scale the walls together with the support of the centre’s experienced climbing instructors.

Mike Surtees, Highball Climbing Centre’s Managing Director, hopes the Highball sessions will harness youngsters’ interest in climbing; “HighballPlay is an activity session which gives youngsters the chance to scale the walls with their friends or siblings or even as a solo climber while under the watchful gaze of our instructors.”
