Brits have voted their Top 40 most memorable TV moments from 2017

Brits have voted their Top 40 most memorable TV moments from 2017

It may have been watched with curled toes and faces buried in hands, but the wrong ‘best picture’ announcement at the Oscars’ has been named the greatest TV moment of 2017.

Viewers were left stunned when Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway wrongly named ‘La La Land’ as the winner of ‘Best Picture’ at 2017 awards.

Shortly after the musical film’s cast and crew gathered onstage, the realisation of the mistake struck as producer Jordan Horowitz declared: “This is not a joke. Moonlight won Best Picture.”

The poignant ‘One Love’ Manchester fundraising concert, which was watched by millions following the terror attack on Manchester Arena, came second,

Ariana Grande, who was performing at the venue on the night of the attack, gave an emotional performance alongside the likes of Katy Perry, Robbie Williams and the Black Eyed Peas.

Third on the list was the moment a mother whale carried her late new born across the ocean on Blue Planet II, while Theresa May’s calamitous Conservative Party press conference speech came fourth.

The interview between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle following their engagement completed the top five.

A spokesman for Samsung, which commissioned the research, said: “It’s been an emotional year for viewers with plenty of great TV moments.

“From factual to fictional, there have been a number of twists and turns in 2017, and with a Royal wedding on the cards, we can’t wait to see what 2018 brings.”

Sixth place in the study, of 2,000 adults, went to the hilarious moment Professor Robert E. Kelly was gate-crashed by his childrern during a live interview with the BBC.

Game of Thrones dominated the top ten with the falling of the wall, Daenery’s dragon’s death, and her steamy encounter with Jon Snow at seventh, eighth and tenth place.

Debbie McGee’s flexibility on Strictly Come Dancing completed the top ten, coming in at number nine.

Others voted Gemma Collins’ unfortunate stage tumble at the Radio 1 Teen Awards into the top 40 while the moment former Spice Girl Mel B drenched Simon Cowell on America’s Got Talent also made the list.

Dramas featured heavily with Mary Watson’s murder in Sherlock, the hanging in The Handmaid’s Tale and the fall of the villainous Negan in The Walking Dead leaving viewers aghast.

But the shocks weren’t just limited to dramas, with Great British Bake-Off host, Paul Hollywood featuring after shaking two bakers’ hands in just the first episode.

Other memorable moments include Ed Sheeran sharing a kiss with Keith Lemon on Celebrity Juice and the winner of Britain’s Got Talent, Tokio Myers, announcing his winnings would be used to open a music school.

The soaps also provided some great TV, including Vanessa and Charity’s kiss in Emmerdale and the dramatic brawl between Robert his drug dealer pal on Coronation Street.

This Morning had its fair share thanks to Amanda Holden asking astronaut Tim Peake if he had brought a souvenir back from the moon – when he had been on the International Space Station.

A pony going to the toilet live on the ITV show and Ben Shephard eating a squirrel also shocked viewers who voted in the poll via OnePoll.com.

2017 was certainly a memorable TV year and 2018 is likely to be equally exciting, don’t miss a moment, tune in on one of Samsung’s UHD TVs.
