5 Things Only 90s Kids Can Relate to…

If you were a kid in the 90’s, there are things that you can relate to that most other people can’t.

You may have had your colorful bedroom walls, your bespoke bedroom furniture, and a variety of other clothes and toys that kids born in earlier decades or later decades would even recognize. Some of these things are still available today, however, it was the kids in the 90’s that made them popular.

Butterfly Clips

If you were a girl in the 90’s, you likely owned your fair share of butterfly hair clips. Girls would twist small sections of their hair, and put the clips in all around the crown of their head. They came in a variety of colors and sizes. It wasn’t just girls and teenagers in the 90’s who wore these clips. Just about every female celebrity wore these clips on the red carpet or on stage at one point or another. Sadly enough, these clips went out of style and paved the way for a new fashion fad to take its place.

Choker Necklaces

Teens and tweens in the 90’s loved choker necklaces. You could even see many adults wearing them. Some chokers were made of a thin plastic, that would fit tightly around the neck. Others were made of a thicker, more solid material, often using velvet. Many of these chokers had a small charm in the middle. If you watched television or music videos in the 90’s, you would have noticed that just about every actress and pop star were wearing chokers.

Tamagotchi

Tamagotchi was a toy that was huge in the 90’s. It was a very small electronic toy, that could fit in the palm of your hand. Tamagotchis were virtual pets. It was up to you to feed your pet, clean up after it, and play with it. If you took care of it properly, it would thrive. If not, your Tamagotchi would start beeping and die. There was no need to fret, however. If your pet died, you would simply hit the reset button and bring your pet back to life. This gave you a chance to try harder next time. Just about every kid in the 90’s and even many young adults had these virtual pets.

Platform Sneakers

Thanks to The Spice Girls, just about every girl in the 90’s was wearing platform sneakers. They weren’t great for running or jumping or even walking long distances, but they sure were stylish. Many brands were making platform sneakers in the 90’s, but platform Sketchers were the most popular.

Sony Discman

As CD’s became more and more popular, fewer people were listening to their cassette tapes on the Walkman. In the 90’s, the Sony Discman was introduced. It quickly became the iPod of the 90’s. Kids were walking around with their Sony Discman, carrying around their CD cases, and listening to their favorite music.

Every decade had their own fashions and fads, and the 90’s was no exception. Kids would spend tie in their rooms on their bespoke bedroom furniture and play with their Tamagotchi or listen to their Discman. Teen girls were watching the blockbuster films, Clueless on their VCR, wishing that they could be Cher Horowitz. Kids of all ages were found playing with their Furby, a cute stuffed, electronic toy would speak in his own language, and make your heart melt when he blinked his big eyes. Furby even snored when he slept. Anyone who grew up in the 90’s will tell you that it was the best decade to grow up in.
